Level 1 introduces core skills and knowledge for beginners while Level 2 builds on this to deepen your expertise.

Pool Operator Course Outline
Pool Operator Level 1
Introductory course that covers the essentials of swimming pool operations and maintenance. Topics include:
- Regulations with a focus on the Health Act.
- Pool types and design principles.
- Pool chemistry fundamentals.
- Water testing methods.
- Alternative disinfection techniques.
- Circulation, filtration, and turnover rates.
- Preventative and seasonal maintenance.
- Safe handling and storage of chemicals.
- Troubleshooting common pool issues.
Pool Operator Level 2
This is an advanced course that builds on Level 1 knowledge. Completion of Level 1 is required before enrolling.
Level 2 topics include:
- Review of Level 1 content.
- Regulations with a focus on WCB requirements.
- In-depth pool chemistry.
- Filter sizing and selection.
- Pumps, motors, and their maintenance.
- General and mechanical maintenance.
- Risk management practices.
- Advanced troubleshooting techniques.
14-16 hours over two days.
Minimum 10 people, maximum 20.
Certificate upon successful completion.

A fee of $75 per participant per course level applies, and is payable to BCRPA, plus shipping costs based on location (see below). The host is also responsible for the instructor’s fees and travel expenses.
Please note: The host site must have access to a pool for the course.
