Prerequisite
Before you take the Older Adult Advanced Specialty you’ll need to have completed one of the following core Specialty Modules:
Older Adult Course
The BCRPA-approved Older Adult Advanced Specialty Module is based on Fitness Leadership Canada’s Older Adult Leader Performance Standards and include a minimum of 16 hours of instruction.
Only courses from the verified providers listed below are recognized by BCRPA for Fitness Registration. These providers meet BCRPA standards and are approved to offer the Older Adult Advanced Specialty course within this module.

Older Adult Exam
Complete the Older Adult Fitness Exam
If you’re aiming to become a BCRPA Older Adult Fitness Leader, passing the Older Adult Fitness Exam is a must. It’s based on Fitness Leadership Canada’s Older Adult Leader Performance Standards, and you’ll need a minimum score of 80% to pass.
Make sure your BCRPA Registration, CPR, and First Aid certifications stay current while you complete everything.
Exam Details
- Format: 30 multiple-choice questions
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Passing Grade: 80% (24 correct answers)

To write the exam, you’ll need:
- Valid photo ID
- Computer with Windows 10 or higher
- Webcam, microphone, speakers
- Reliable internet connection
How to Register for the Exam
- Log in to your account on The Registry® of Fitness Professionals.
- Scroll to the Exam History tab on your User Account page.
- Click Purchase Exam and follow the instructions.
- Pay securely by credit card only.
Once payment is complete, you’ll receive an email with exam instructions and a link to schedule with ProctorU. (Check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see it in your inbox.)

ICE Practical
Instructor Competency Evaluation (ICE)
You’ll complete your Older Adult Leader ICE (Instructor Competency Evaluation) with your course conductor.
Before getting started download and read your Older Adult ICE Package
Once your ICE is complete and you’ve passed, your Evaluator will send everything directly to BCRPA.
Heads-up: Processing can take 5–10 business days.
You’re Covered (With Insurance!)
As long as your BCRPA Registration is active, you’re covered by BCRPA’s insurance policy while completing your practical components—including your ICE.
Once everything’s done and approved, your Older Adult specialty will be officially added to your account on The Registry® of Fitness Professionals.
Congratulations! You are now a BCRPA Registered Older Adult Fitness Leader!
